Pilot Name: Alain Grace
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Assignment and Rank: Terrestrial Assault Force - Test Korps - E4
Appearance:
Fair skinned caucasian male, with slightly shaggy brown hair, and dark brown eyes. Much to Alain's chagrin, he has perpetually dark circles beneath his eyes, regardless of how much he sleeps. Only averagely built, Alain is 5'7, and weighs 142 lbs.
Generally speaking Alain's appearance exudes a lack of perfection. His hair though trimmed down, is always just too long to be regulation, and never brushed. His uniform (which is his primary choice of clothing), though always clean, is typically wrinkled, and might not be tucked in, or worn too open depending on how fastidious Alain was feeling that day. His military boots will be cleaned, but not polished, and always poorly laced.
Personality in brief:
A talented pilot, Alain is not particularly disciplined, which is reflected in his appearance. He consumes massive amounts of any sort of drugs he can get his hands on, a way of coping with his realization that he isn't a newtype. Toward normal people he is typically a nice guy, though he will subconsciously needle true newtypes, and in general exhibit passive aggressive traits when in contact with them. He also claims that he is a newtype, and will offer any sort of circumstantial evidence he can come up with as proof when pressed on the issue, or simply change the topic when the discussion isn't going his way.
Personality in detail with some background:
Alain always believed he was born for something more, and so when the existence of Newtypes become a focus for Zeon, it was only natural that he realized this was his great purpose. He had to be a Newtype, one of those enlightened beings that would lead humanity to the next stage of evolution, what could be more special than that? It didn't take him long to enroll in the Principality's armed forces, getting fast tracked to the Flanagan Institute as they searched out any newtype candidates.
It was during his testing that the truth came out, and Alain was discarded as just another Oldtype. The entire experience crushed Alain, the pilot entering a deep depression where he just “didn't care.” He was a gifted pilot, but he was far from being a Char or a Shin, especially without applying himself fully to his training. Zeon was loathe to waste even a poor pilot prospect, Alain eventually getting assigned as a test pilot on Earth.
It was darkly ironic that Alain found himself trapped on the planet he believed he (and all other Newtypes) were supposed to lead humanity from. It was during his time on Earth that Alain began experimenting with mind expanding drugs. Anything he could get his hands on, promptly found its way into his body. Part of Alain knew he wasn't a newtype, and resented true newtypes for it, but the other part clung to the belief that he was one of those oh so special beings. It is this dualism that drives Alain as he believes newtypes are the next step of human evolution, but he can't consciously stand the fact that he is one of those useless Oldtypes, and will work unconsciously against any newtype he comes in contact with.
Current Preferred Combat Tactics:
Alain's tactics have evolved with his new mobile suit. He favors a blitzkrieg style attack, lobbing his rockets, and grenades at the opponent as much to damage them, as to throw them off guard so that he can deliver the killing blow from behind. His preferred weapon has shifted from the Efreet's shotgun, to his missile launchers, and swords.
While he is more inclined to attack an opponent head on than he had been previous, a side effect of the EXAM increasing his aggression, he won't pass up an opportunity to end a fight by sneaking up on an opponent.
As before Alain will typically try to fight with a level of subterfuge, throwing his opponent off balance so that he can create an opening in their defenses to deliver a killing blow.
Unless absolutely overcome with bloodlust, Alain still isn't above beating a hasty retreat, usually packing two standard fragmentation grenades for combat, and a single smoke grenade to provide cover for him. He will also carry all smoke grenades as the situation demands, his experience with the Efreet allowing him to fight in limited vision situations more aptly than his opponents.
Though he doesn't often fight hand to hand, he will employ similar tactics if put in such a situation, though he is far more likely to try to slip away than duke it out unless he has a very obvious advantage.
Previously Favored Tactics:
Alain prefers the more indirect method of combat, shirking head on attacks for trying to get the hell out of dodge long enough to flank his opponents, or simply exhibit the better part of valor if he is totally outgunned or classed. This isn't to say he doesn't like melee combat, he just prefers to ensure that he is the only one who knows it is a sword fight until he drives his blade through his opponent's back.
To this end he will frequently use his mobile suit's smoke dischargers to make it harder for his opponents to track him as he tries to finish them with a heat sword, or shotgun blast to whichever side part of his opponent that looks to be the easiest target.
Not specifically a combat tactics, but it isn't uncommon for Alain to be hopped up on something (usually not psychotropics) before combat.
The same methodology would be applied to any sort of fist fight, though he is far from a strong fighter.
Note: His previous tactics are still listed primarily to contrast against his current strategies for writers.
