Background:
There are some men who find that war is an option. Then there are men like Irusk. He was born for battle, his father serving in the early Colonial Militias, and his father before him serving in the Federal Navy. He never questioned what would happen to him. Only that when the Principality called, he answered quickly, applying to the mobile suit training academy.
He excelled in his studies, applying himself with all his will to one day graduating and attending the Officer's Academy. There was only one blotch: The fact that his grandfather had served in the Federal Navy over sixty years ago. How a man could come from the stock as a former Feddie and end up in the Zeon military, the upper echelon of command didn't understand.
But Alec didn't allow that to stop him. He still applied, constantly proving himself, especially in the field of Fire Support. Whether it was the use of old style shell-lobbing artillery, or the new Zaku Cannons, he thrilled at the sound of cannon fire, the thought of raining destruction on the enemies of the State. One of his instructors took note of this, and recommended that Irusk stay on as mobile artillery instructor, both in the classroom, and in the field. It wasn't exactly what his calling was, but it would do.
It's not every day that an artillery instructor is moved from the classroom to the frontlines. The war on Earth raged on, with the Terrestrial Assault Force losing manpower as it dominated in the Earth Sphere, but something was missing. The High Command looked to the Academy, and saw potential in Irusk. Recommendations to deploy him had been ignored since the outbreak of the war, but finally, the order came. Immediate deployment to Earth, in one of the new heavy artillery weapons, the Xamel.
He was at first assigned to the Odessa Defense team, but put in request after request to field himself in the front lines, and take the fight to the enemy, to stop the threat against the Motherland.
Personality:
Irusk is considered to be one of the finest candidates for an Officer, but settles as an NCO, directing the actions of small groups, in order to find the most decisive application of force.
Out of combat, he is jovial, polite, and at ease with anyone he meets, almost in direct opposite to the form he takes in combat. He's been called bloodthirsty, a glory-hog, and even a monster at range. But it is only due to his passion for war, and for the chance to elevate Zeon away from the Earth Spere, and to show that the Colonies are the future. Not the Federal Government.
Since Operation: Odessa and the subsequent battles of Jaburo, Alec Irusk has changed in persoanlity somewhat. He's softened, and stopped viewing the men and women under his command as just tools and resources to be thrown at war. As an extension of his own Faith, he's started keeping track of those who have died under his command, who have fought with him and his unit, the One-Oh-First Aquatic.
He's turned to his right hand man, Yuri "The Axe" Kolsk, as a bit of a sounding board, as well as one of the few men left he can trust. Especially with the actions of the SS becoming more and more brutal and less concerned with how the war is supposed to be waged, he's realizing that the TAF may be being used.
With his promotion to an officer proper, he's hoping to lead the TAF against the Earth Federation, even when it appears to be on the losing end of a vicious war.
It's more important than ever to him that the humanity of war be remembered. After all, war is hell, and even the Warmonger can grow tired of the costs that are being inflicted.
In the final weeks of the war, with the loss of his squadron, and the feelings of betrayal from the Schutzstaffel weighing on him, Alec finds himself wanting to end the war, no longer feeling that fighting for fightings sake is truly what needs to happen. But the cause of colonial freedom from the rule of the Earth Federation still burns in his heart.
