If the Druid's Escape is close enough, I swim to it. If not, I swim toward the closest knot of Gildas' men. If I sense I won't make it in time, I grab a bayonetted-rifle off one of the dead marines and try my luck with the marines.

You remember the Druides Escape!
You throw your barrel to the marines, who, overweight with their equipment, hold on for dear life.
You swim to the bow of the boat, moving carefully to keep your head above water.
Your wounds are forming a blood trail..
You cross over and see your ship. Two dead marines and a pool of blood lay between you and the ship.
You see the third's head float by.
There's a dingy back by the barrel, but you also hear gunfire.
At this point, you can try to rush to the ship, double back to the dingy, or hold some driftwood.
The Man-Of-War is still above water, though the majority of the deck has been destroyed. You could try to climb back on..

I yell at the Druides Escape to come pick me up!
If I know these waters are shark-infested, I head for the closest thing that will keep me above water, unless it is completely taken by a group of marines. The Druides Escape is my first choice, followed, in order of preference, by an unoccupied dinghy, the sinking ship, an occupied dinghy and driftwood.

You strain your voice to yell, but the gunfire behind you is too loud. The Druides' Escape begins to pull away.
"DANIEL!" you hear. It's unmistakably Anna's voice.
The Druides Escape is moving in your direction. But in front of it.. fins poke out of the water.
You struggle towards the nearest thing to you - the Man-Of-War's wreck. Climbing aboard the debris-laden ship, you barely manage to get on the gundeck - whose floor falls out, letting you fall into the bilge.
You hear your name being screamed by Anna so many times you hear her go hoarse.
Throughly exhausted, you can manage nothing above a whisper.
You're in the wrecked Man-Of-War's bilge. There are a few.. pieces of dead men, varied weapons, and even a few rum barrels floating in there amongst you. The ship is sinking, but no more than a ship usually sinks. Your legs are in the water though.
The blood is attracting a pack of sharks.
Anna has stopped calling for you.

Grab Anna and fashion a raft out of the rum barrels.

You hear footsteps on the ship. You grab at your belt for a weapon, gripping something hard off your belt.
"Daniel! At last! What are you doing here?" She looks at the leper's hand.
You look like a homeless gravedigger.
---
"Aha! A dingy!"
Anna's dingy has been stolen. [-1 Dingy]
---
Rescue! You sheath your hand and pull her down into the bilge with you. She yelps as the bloodied water touches her legs.
"Daniel, we need to get back to the ship! What are you doing down here"
You point to the barrels and mutter "raft." It's clear the bloodloss is getting to you.
The girl picks up quick, taking some rope off her belt and, according to your directions, lashes a few barrels together on the remnants of the gundeck. She pushes it off, alone, and manages to drop it in the water.
[New item, Rum Barrel Raft!]
Suddenly, the Man-Of-War starts to crack - leading you and Anna to hop on your makeshift contraption. You've managed an 3 by 4 Rum Raft, mostly empty, so they float well.
Alcohol leaks into the ocean. The sharks pick up a few of the corpses and swim away.
"Daniel! Anna! Let's get out of here!"
Gildas has pulled the Druides Escape around, tosses some rigging and pulls you two up.
The rest of the men, startled by the rum barrels, lash those together and pull them up.
"Set course for Havana," Gildas directs. It's best you put this land behind you.
Anna carries you into the Captain's cabin and lays you in the bath.
She gives you some alcohol. On the side of it, you can make out the letters
Turpin's Dare.
You pass out.

200 EXP. LEVEL UP~ NEW ADDITION LEARNED: VOLCANO FLAME.
~
The Druides Escape glides into the docks of Havana at night. You have been unconscious for weeks. The men have been cycling your treatment as if it was guard duty.
You lost 30 pounds and now weigh 140. You look gaunt and sickly. You don't even awaken as you are carried off the boat and into a Spanish hospital.
The doctors try all kinds of treatments, but you are comatose. Finally, an Arab medicine man comes to you. He whispers in your ear, then leaves.
The next morning, you awaken.
~
The sun is spilling through the windows of the sanitarium, blinding you the moment you open your eyes. There are four shadowy figures standing above you, speaking amongst themselves in a language you don't understand. You pass out again.
~
This time, the light is moderate. You open your eyes and motion for water; it is provided.
There are two Spanish doctors conversing amongst themselves and a nurse tending to you. No one speaks English.
What do you do?

Look around the room for Gildas or Anna. Ask in broken Spanish about them. Try to get an idea of how bad a shape I'm in. Try to get up.

You look around the room, taking in your surroundings. It is large, open air - looking at the wall you can read "la tuberculosis sanatorio." Whatever that means.
The nurse comes to you, asking you some questions.. you don't understand, but you begin to use her gestures to figure it out. (+1 Language)
You eventually figure out she's trying to get you up to eat. You say Gildas's name. She looks at you blankly. Then Anna. To this, she responds, nods, yells to the other room, and tries to get you on your feet.
As your foot hits the ground you realize there is only one of them. On the other side, nothing. No foot, no ankle, nothing below the knee. That must have been a hell of a shot.. but with all you've been though, it's a wonder you're alive at all.
You shuffle with the nurse over to the cafeteria. There are a few other patients, none looking too good. A man with one eye, another with no legs at all, a woman with her mouth hidden by a hankerchief, and a child whose head is wrapped with bandages.
The nurse brings over boiled and salted rice, mandarin oranges, bananas, apples, well cooked and spiced steak and red wine. A priest arrives and says a blessing, and all the people, save for the woman, murmur a prayer in Spanish. He looks over to you, noticing you have yet to give praise to your savior.
You don't know Spanish. What do you do?

Your bow signals him to start.
"Todos los piratas pueden colgar por el cuello hasta que muertos. Amen."
Amen, the assorted patients say in response.
Your fellow convalescents are eating quitely.
The man with the eyepatch talks loudly in English to himself about foreign candies, while the woman with her mouth covered just looks at her food longingly.
Your missing foot is itchy.
