Due to a recent interest in pirate novels spurred on by my travels, I'll be shepherding this journey through the high seas. This'll be my last attempt at this sort, considering my black luck in the past, but I'm hopeful it'll be a good one.
---
The year is 1679. You are a young and impressionable young man at age 20 living in Port Royal, Jamaica. King Charles is on the throne.
Port Royal is a large naval town, full of trade and merchants. Your father is a member of the Royal Navy of minor rank. He is currently off on a voyage as of now, protecting Britain's Empire - and has been missing for years, without news.
Your mother owns a local tavern, "Drunkard's Fate", that is rather popular because of the good service and food. Your family isn't the richest, but you've been working for years fishing, but it barely lets you and your mom break even. Even your father's pay has stopped arriving.
You are walking around on the street near the docks, looking at all the huge merchant ships loading and unloading cargo. You can smell the bread being baked at the bakery near here, but you continue walking, as you have no money.
You decide you had best return to the tavern, as you told mother you would be gone only for a short stroll. You turn around and walk back to the tavern.
You see the "Drunkard's Fate" ahead, your mother's tavern, and enter. It is rather crowded, and the dimly lit eating area is packed of all sorts of people. Smoke from pipes fills the room. Merchants, Naval Officers, laborers, dockworkers, and others, of a less than savory nature...
You see your mother walking around and carrying food to various tables. Old Turpin is chatting up the people seated at the bar while polishing a glass and nodding his head.
You think about your life so far. You don't really posses any skills, other than cooking, hardly a man's profession...but surely you will be attending academy soon, you will learn all sorts of things then.
"Daniel!" you hear your mother shout.
You look and see her calling you over. You know better than not listen to your mother, so you go over to her.
"Yes mum?" you say.
"A retired captain of our Majesty's Royal Naval is coming here soon, recommended by one his men. I want you to go to the docks and escort him to the tavern here."
"Yes mum," you respond dutifully, and leave running off to the docks again. You spot a captain surrounded by Royal Marines, and step up to talk to him. You're stopped by a young Marine.
"Whoa, slow down there mate. Who are you?"
"Daniel Coulson. I'm here to take the captain to the tavern."
The captain bows and walks in silence with the group. On the way, you make small talk with the Marine.
"So, what does a kid in Port Royal dream to become someday?"
He's obviously curious about not only the morale of the civilians, but your fate especially. What do you say? (This will give you starting stats as well)

Become the richest merchant!
Become the most honored admiral!
Become the most blood-thirsty pirate in all the seven seas!
Become the most honorable marine in all the Empire!

So, what do you dream on becoming? First suggestion or most popular one determines your beginning stats. Now, like all CYOAs, you do normal stuff until the action kicks off.
