"There is a way out!" You try the last door.
Four muskets aimed on your head. Two with bayonets.
The mercenaries have arrived. That gunshot must have spooked more than a few people.
You listen to them and make out a few words. They are wondering what the gunshot was.
Security must be tight here.
You hear footsteps further down the hall. More mercenaries are probably coming..

I try to subtly motion to the doctor to hide the blunderbuss.

With a loud, obvious scream you tell the doctor to hide the blunderbuss.
Thanks to the mercenaries being Spanish, this works.
One mercenary takes visible interest in the doc.
"Padre! otro asunto! lo que la madre parece?"
"Tal vez su madre me dará un poco de amor y dejar de joder el sacerdote!"
"Pensé que ella estaba trabajando en un prototipo de juego móvil?"
"Que la fórmula de nueve una mierda tiene retardo mental."
"Padre!"
"Nos dejan!"
If they were not talking so fast, you might have time to contribute.
The mercenaries all walk off. It seems you and Doc have some free time. You walk out of the building, hand in hand.
You look down. You didn't grab his.
Well, you're in beautiful Havana. The year is 1680. What do you want to do?

You prowl the streets for a good coffee house.
Away from the harbor, at the center of city government, all kinds of speciality shops cater to the rich and powerful.
You enter a humble establishment called "El Burro."
Inside, men smoke from pipes freely. There is a disproportionate amount of Irish. You and your doctor take a seat.
A man approaches you waiting for an order.
You can order a coffee or pipe.
At other tables, an Irish man with a hat tells a story to a group of his mates.
Next to him, a French girl talks excitedly to a bored looking Irish sailor.
Spaniards are littered throughout the coffee house; but only as waiters.
From the kitchen, you can hear Arabic chanting...

"Some coffee for me, and a pipe for that charming woman over there."
"El mismo, pero no tubo."
The waiter nods and leaves, going into the kitchen.
A man comes in with a plate, a pipe sitting on it with tabacco in a tea cup.
He brings it to the woman and she looks confused.
He places the pipe in her mouth and lights it.
She looks confused.
After a few puffs she coughs and takes out the pipe.
She continues coughing so much, she can't speak.
Her mate smiles.
"Saints preserve us! I thought you'd never shut up!"
You have made some man's day.

I enjoy my coffee, tell the doc that we need to go, try to find Anna and the somewhat-creepy old guy, and then attempt to find a job on a ship for us. Failing that, we form a plan to steal a ship.

You enjoy your coffee, tell the doc that you need to go, try to find Anna and the somewhat-creepy old guy, and then attempt to find a job on a ship for us. Failing that, we form a plan to steal a ship.
Doc somewhat ignores you, sipping his coffee and nodding.
You get up, filled with ambition. You strut over to the Irish man, and extend your hand. Your leg clicks as you walk.
"Daniel Coulson's the name, this here's my Doc. Pleasure to meet you."
The Irishman shakes your hand. "Marty Kircher. I work for my pop sailing him around the world."
You smile.
"Well then, do I have a deal for you! Me and," you pull Doc next to you. "My friend here are looking for a ship to work on. Now, he's a medical professional and I'm..." you think to yourself. What kind of skills do you have? "A.. jack of all trades, you see! Yes sir, I can do a little bit of everything."
Marty smiles.
"You're in luck. The last boatswain hung himself. We have an opening. Are you interested?"
The French girl is silent, staring holes into you, coughing every now and then.

I size the guy up, decide I can stab him later if I don't like him, smile and say, "Sure!"

You size the guy up, decide you can stab him later if you don't like him, smile and say, "Sure!"
The group gets up. "Let's see the boat then," Marty offers.
He walks out of the coffee house, lady aside him with you and Doc walking a few steps behind.
A few blocks later and you enter "Kircher Pier". A private pier.
Perhaps there is some money to be made.
You pass by around 20 ships. Some are big and formidable. Some small cutters. You even spy a turtle fishing boat at the very end. Next to it is a sail.
You look from boat to boat.
"Which one is yours?"
"All of them."
You gasp.
"We got enough men to run one, as long as we have a skilled boatswain. The men are still at the coffee house. Just tell me which you can sail best."
There is a large frigate littered with cannon. You spy six rows of 10. 60 guns, wow. You reason it must take a few hundred men to run it.
A smaller mid sized vessel has oars out the side. You count 40 guns. Probably 200 to run this one.
Then, a compact schooner. 20 guns. 50 to run.
Finally, the turtle boat. 10 men to get going.
He seems to be watching you closely, smiling. The French girl is looking out to the water, forlorn.

Bigger is better.
"I've experience with vessels of all sizes, though it'd be a waste to sail your largest ship if the cargo won't fill it. What're you hauling, and how much?"

"Oh, don't worry about that. Just come back to the docks at about.. 12 midnight. We'll be setting sail then."
The Irish man smiled, then walked hand in hand with the French girl.
Her eyes seemed to be pleading something to you, something she wouldn't dare speak in the man's presence.
They exited view.
On the pier, you can see that a group of men are coming down to the turtle fishing boat, prepping it to sail. They are talking a language you have not yet encountered..

"Won't mind if I accompany you back into town? I've got a few questions regarding the ship, and the crew. And questions about why your bosun hanged himself."
I give the girl a reassuring smile, make clever small talk about boat things, and try to keep my eye on the pair for as long as isn't awkward. If I have a chance to speak with her alone, I take it. Then, I while away time until midnight and meet at the docks.
