The War of Those Born

Though only a brief stint in Illcara’s history, the outcome brought monumental change to the world. War broke out between the Human kingdom of Goleain and the Avari and Dar’avari kingdom and soon drew in all the other races, thus making a dividing line between the First Born and the Second Born. Several months saw the quick, though not so decisive destruction of Human settlements until it was revealed that the entire scenario was orchestrated by Icarii’s noble born. By this point, it was far too late. Prince Avalon’s forces toppled the fortress of Cofel and the Dark Elves crushed Lut Goleain to ruins.  After these two strongholds fell, there was little hope for the remainder of that proud kingdom and its allies. The Shar Kal islands fell to the might of the Dark Elf navy and an entire race was enslaved. Though they fought valiantly, the proud Minotaur had no hope of withstanding the combined might of all the First Born armies and they too crumbled and those few who survived set out across Illcara. The Second Born shattered, the governing of Illcara was turned upon the First Born.

“Illcara’s history is really not all that interesting. Merely battle after war after battle after war after godly intervention after war. Makes me wonder how I’m still here…”

The Accord of Dragons

The First Born Alliance, a banding together formed at the commencement of ‘The War of Those Born’ outlived its menial battles and eventual victory. For ten years it remained as a simple alliance until they eventually came to a consensus in the 579th Illcarian Year for the formation of the ‘Accord of Dragons,’ a governing body that would manage Illcara as a whole. Though each First Born kingdom still had its own individual regions, they were all allied as one large territory, and the ruling parties themselves bought together by the ‘Council of Elders.’
They took it upon themselves to govern the Human remnants that consented to their rule, ‘The Shattered Kingdom,’ and assigned a governor and troops to each Human settlement.

The Internment of the Shar Kal

Unlike Humankind, the Shar Kal were not treated so well; the Dark Elves were brutal conquerors. Though some of the Accord disagreed with the methods, they were both too cowardly and could not help but acknowledge the benefits of the slave labour. Thus, the prolonged internment of the entire race since the war. Uprisings were attempted in the earlier years, but were viciously shattered by their masters and the offending members, and their families, slaughtered.
The Shar Kal now reside, shackled, in the deep pools of the Dark Elven cities, mining ores or constructing cities from the stone, or whatever else is demanded of them. Those not fortunate enough to be stationed in the subterranean lakes die by the score. Now they are a collection of broken souls, with no will to carry on. An entire race annihilated, though they still stand.

“I want to die.”
