Playing the game itself was mind-boggling, especially when 9 of 10 things that went wrong I had explained to Berrik before he even launched...
Though, at least at the beginning, I had some fun gameplay moments. Pulling off the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Group attack alongside the Vanguard Horizon stands out as one of my favorites. Mostly because Berrik never saw it coming, and because of all the behind-the-scenes work we put in to pull it off. I was in an AIM conversation with Berrik when it donned on him that we'd actually try and hit that monster. We were chatting along, and he was checking the email account, and saw that one of the Vultures sent in a request to attack. He was like, "I have to tell you, I think you all jumped the gun on this. It's not going to be pretty." I just said, "Oh?" Then he replied: "I mean, if you had the Vanguard Horizon with you, maybe, but..." And then another email came in, from one of the VH fellows ^_^... That was a genuine thrill.

Yeah, I love those kind of moments. It's the same sort of thing like when back in Afterera we killed whatshisname in Wing Zero, or when we took Barge.
Pretty much what I've tried to do in OYW is make it so you can have moments like that repeatedly and in a fashion where things are fair and there's no random rulechanges, and in a way where the outcome to things actually matters.

I did not know his feelings on the matter were so serious against it. I am however making note how little he cares about me as a player if he would rather remove me from his next game and ban me from chat without speaking a word to me. That is about as low a you could treat a player and I'm kind of appalled any webmaster would do that kind of thing.

Corran Horn!
Now I must listen to "Guy Love" one last time, and decide between playing iNfamous or Killzone 2. Because I have yet to actually play a PS3 game on my PS3 since getting it for Christmas, and I have nothing to do today!

That is the reason I didn't join FI. I don't mind All Gundam, but I am pretty into the tactical and strategic elements, and you can't have those if the games rules aren't consistent throughout. I can't put myself in the mindset of just RPing and blowing up bases drunkenly like Chris and Marcus can. I see I missed out, though! That was fun, though. Sometimes not needing to write up a 2 page long tactic to destroy something is what you need. It's a lot like a summer action flick in that manner to OYW's more...I'm not sure what a proper comparison would be. FI was in many ways a learning experience for all of the staff involved, and we're working to correct many of the mistakes and errors that happened along the way here. FI wasn't perfect, I will admit that, but it was fun. I realize that a lot of you don't like Berrik for one reason or another, but I manage to get along with him, and when he's not upset, he's a nice guy to talk with. Perhaps that's why I'm so quick to defend him and the game he runs, especially since I helped run it these past few months. It's stressful to keep things straight sometime, but I feel it was worth the effort. I don't know how many of you will be back, but I hope you do. Despite the differences I've had with some of you, mainly Chris during our anti-ESA spree, I was honored to have fought alongside and against those that took part. Kale, I will admit that the Vulture stuff we did was definately fun, and I hope to do it again in one form or another in the future. The planning, the debating, that was fun. But now that I've calmed down a bit. I will admit that the Big News thing was a bit extreme, but perhaps you could've asked before posting it and he might've allowed it, or not. That way there might've been no banning, I don't really know. All I will say is that, once again, I had fun.

Dan is so banned!
That does kind of amuse me a bit, since Dan was one of his most active members right up to the end.

Frenzy, it was a practical joke. We knew he was going to take it that far, and I explained to everybody before we started that this was what he was going to do, and everybody said they were okay with that.
It wasn't really meant to be malicious or hurtful, it was meant to be a funny joke to send off the end of a long-running and successful game. I hope you guys do something that goofy for me when OYW ends.
But, FI was a decent game. Personally, I think a lot of what made it good had little to do with Berrik, and had much more to do with his overly large staff. Marcus, Andrew, you, Kusu, Nader, even Tian. He had a lot of staff people helping him with a huge portion of the site work. The stuff Berrik did himself was often late and often unprofessional, and it's for that reason that I think the game petered off after a while, and it's for that reason that I predict he won't get as many members for his next run.
He needs to take the game as seriously as his members do, and not take the jokes as personally as he does.

I was very active in the beginning, kept being active until the end of the VH war which I think my last battle was a 3 way duel with 2 enemies of war in orbit, both very dangerous and I declare I won it since it was never written since Berrik reserved it for himself until he IMed me a few months later. I got bored, got pwned by my own VH bases as Flags kept destroying the solar system's best armor then I flew off into the galaxies~
15:16] <Troika> DAN [19:00] > Hey [19:16] <Troika|updatetime> I just realized I forgot to write that one battle a long time ago >< [19:16] <Troika|updatetime> As such I am awarding you 15 VP tonight [19:16] <Troika|updatetime> Just thought I should let you know >_< [19:37] > lol [19:37] > Gratsi
Traveled for like 2 months of game time and go destroy a giant plant being using a ship as a baseball bat. While the imagery of this is epic I was planning on making a .gif of it for FI boards since Mk III walking with a Drake in hand would be epic.
Fuck yeah I was the most active and awesome membah.

People are jealous over my shit. FI wasn't perfect, I will admit that, but it was fun. I realize that a lot of you don't like Berrik for one reason or another HE OPENLY DECLINED A FACEBOOK FRIEND REQUEST WITH A WRITTEN REPLY. WHO DOES THAT SHIT.

Yeah, the chain of events I had leading up to the Observation Post was the one awesome and meaningful thing I ever did. Everything else was either a meaningless ambush or a failed base attack.

Oh, I posted one big news pic there before and he removed the thread if I remember right, or locked it. Look through the old pages I think it has 1 pic then "This is stopping right here right now."

He needs to take the game as seriously as his members do, and not take the jokes as personally as he does. Still, if you knew he would take it badly, then why do it? Even if you didn't mean any harm, it's like throwing rocks at a beehive and being surprised when one gets stung. But it does make me feel slightly better to know that there was no intended malice. Doesn't make me any more thrilled that it was done, but if the intent wasn't to mess with him for kicks, I'm not going to hold it against you too much. Things weren't perfect, but I still think he did a decent job of things. I think a lot of the problems resulted from trying to do a lot of it solo, which changed once more of us started helping with the updates. There's more to it, but I see no reason to really get into the hows and whys. I do hope that people give the next game a chance regardless of what happened this time. Mistakes were made, and they will be learned from. As for not taking things so seriously, well, there's not much I can do to change that. Everyone's different and handles things differently.
