The One Year War is officially under way. Gihren Zabi, on behalf of Degwin, issues a formal declaration of war against the EFF.

The One Year War begins. The period from 3 to 10 January 0079 becomes known as the bloody One Week Battle. The Zeon Duchy simultaneously launches surprise attacks on Zahn Province in Side 1 (L5), Hatte Province in Side 2 (L4) and Mua Province in Side 4 (L5), making heavy use of its new space fleet and MS-06C Zaku II mobile suit. Nuclear and chemical weapons are used indiscriminately and 2.8 billion lives (25% of the total human population) are lost as the EFF garrisons and the colonies that house them are utterly obliterated. The Zeon declare victory.
06:31—Side 2 (L4) Bunch 13 security chief Rosenberg receives a coded message that the Zeon are mobilizing, but the line is cut before he can hear the code signifying that the main attack has been initiated.

07:45—The EFF receives word of the Zeon attack.

11:20—The ZMF 1st Combined Fleet begins the attack on Side 5 (L1). The ZMF Mobile Assault Force begin attaching a nuclear pulse engine to Side 5 (L1) Bunch 11 in preparation for another colony drop.

Due to worry by the colonists, the Riah Militia, consisting beforehand of simple stopgap, outdated forces, comissions the Riah Defence Fleet, consisting mainly of purchased decommissioned ZMF and EFSF technology.

· The EFF succeeds in miniaturizing beam weapons using E-CAP (energy capacitor) technology. The Zeon are unaware of this massive development.
· The Pegasus-class MS carrier SCV-70 White Base is completed, the first of its class and also the first EFF warship to posses an MS hangar.
· Rollout of the first RX-78 Gundam. With the RX-78-1 completed, the RX-79 Plan gets rolling, and work on a pre-production type and various MS support weapons begins. They are distributed to the remaining major bases on a trial basis.
· The ZMF Submarine Battle Fleet is activated, with 10 Jukon-class combat submarines staged in the Atlantic, Indian and Arctic Oceans with a roving commission to disrupt commercial shipping and destroy any remaining Federal Navy military assets.
· An EFF Reconnaissance in Force (RIF) fleet engages a ZMF Strategic Planning & Operations Group convoy A Baoa Qu perimeter defense space fortress near the Side 3 (L2). ZMF O-3 Gaia’s “Black Trinity” commando team, equipped with the new MS-06R-1A High Mobility Zaku II, decimates the RIF, destroying a Magellan-class battleship and an entire FF-S3 Saberfish escort fighter formation.

· The Battle of Midway. The remaining Federal Navy fleet foils a Zeon submarine-based amphibious invasion of their Hawaii home base. GMs are seen in combat for the first time.

- Before Federal supply squadrons can come to aid RF-2 it is attacked by the Pink Panthers and retaken. Zeon security in northern Africa is upped tremendously.
- A Zanzibar fleet escorted by Johnny Ridden is attacked by Federal Blockades just past Luna II, destroying almost 50% of the Side 3 Resupply Fleet.

Terrorist activities increase in Von Braun, reportedly under influence by the duchy of Zeon. The Federation dispatches peacekeepers to assist in the quelling of increasing riots in the city.

A riot takes place inside Von Brauns commercial district. Terrorists and suspected Zeon militants attack the Federal peacekeepers with small arms, resulting in a counterattack by Federal tanks. The situation becomes more volatile.

Another riot in Von Braun, this one is also accompanied with Terrorist actions. Major Wilcox, in command of the peacekeeping operation, orders his tank to open fire on civilians, wounding hundreds and killing dozens.

- An operation to capture Constantinple base, jointly spearheaded by Akio Akamatsu and Aleksander Dolvich, succeeds. However, due to the defection of a Federated EFSF member participating in the assault, the attack is expected and losses are minimized.
- Reportedly assisted by the Schuttzstaffel, Major Wilcox and his peacekeepers are attacked and wiped out by terrorists. The Riah Republic steps in to calm down the situation, and order is reastablished.
- Riah Republic passes the Military Defence act, agreeing to design and build conventional armaments.

- Both the Zeon and Federation refit their Mobile Suit program with new designs.
- Riah Republic purchases the Ball K Type design from the Earth Federation, and rolls out the Riah Patrol Craft.

The first day of Operation Odessa. The White Base makes a pre-emptive assault on RF-1, retaking it. Warrant Officer Morganin Prelev vows revenge. Federal GMPGT teams seige Lhasa.

The second day of Operation Odessa. Assaults are made on both Constantinople and Lhasa, using the Admiral A-1 super heavy tank and GMPGT, respectively. The already weakened Constantinople base falls almost without a fight, whereas Lhasa is not taken. Federal forces move into Zeon occupied North Africa.

The third day of Operation Odessa. Fighting comes up all along the Nile river valley, as the Federation breaks through Zeonic African lines. A sneak attack on the White Base by Wil "Black Anubis" Johnson and the Pink Panthers manages to heavily damage the ship.

The fourth day of Operation Odessa. The EFGF 2nd resupply fleet is dispatched from Belfast to re-arm and re-supply ships already in enemy territory. Federal troops begin moving into Zeon occupied Central Asia. The "East Asian HQ" is established with the remnants of the Lhasa attack force.

The fifth day of Operation Odessa. Amongst other assaults, the Midnight Fenrirs and Karakals launch a joint attack on the Europe assault force, at the same time as Ramba Ral launches an attack on the White Base. The White Base is crippled, and the EAF forced to stall for a day. The ZMF Side 3 Resupply Fleet, commanded by Major Johnny Ridden and Sublieutenant Anton Vereschagin, manages to defeat the Tianem fleet and heads for Odessa.

The sixth day of Operation Odessa. Odessa itself is placed under seige.

- The seventh day of Operation Odessa. In the largest battle seen on Earth since the invention of the Mobile Suit, both sides commit their entire resources to the battle.
- 6 AM - Federal bombing begins, and preparations for the assault are made.
- 7:15 AM - Federal forces advance. The Admiral A-1 line, spearheaded by 2nd Lieutenant Ron Bentley, manages to defeat Zeonic mobile armors and elite strike forces. The MS division, understaffed because of the Feds failure to meet up with the Asian division, don't fare so well.
- 8:00 AM - The Side 3 Resupply fleet lands on the base, bolstering its defence forces in a brilliantly orchestrated paradrop operation, spearheaded by Anton Vereschagin. General Revil orders an all stop to the Federals until the Zanzibar fleet launches, hoping to take out their resources with snipers while minimalizing casualties.
- 11 AM - Sabine Rocos kills Garma Zabi and defects to the Federation, hiding in an abandoned bunker.
- 5:45 PM - Sabine Rocos rescues Zeon captive Aleksander Dolvich, the two stealing a Zanzibar and Efreet Custom and trying to escape the base. Cima Garahau attempts to stop them.
- 6 PM - The Black Tri-Stars attack the White Base, away from the battlefield and having just been fixed by the 2nd EFGF resupply fleet. Amuro Rey manages to defeat the Tri-Stars, but only after the destruction of the fleet itself.
- 6:15 PM - The Midnight Fenrirs and Karakals launch a sneak attack on Federal sniper positions. Only one sniper unit, piloted by Sergeant Eli Staedtler, manages to survive. The Fenrirs and Karakals are all presumed dead in the assault.
- 6:20 PM - The Zanzibars begin to launch. Without Federal Sniper cover, Ron Bentley orders an attack on the enemy trench line. Warrant Officer Morganin Prelev, in charge of the line, manages to defeat the Admirals and kill Bentley, however losing his own life and the defensive positioning itself. Federal mobile suits and secondary tanks begin to swarm the base.
- 6:30 PM - Amidst heavy fighting on the spaceport, the Zanzibars manage to take off safely, only one being shot down by Eli Staedtler. He would later make up for this by taking out a fleeing Gaw. Ma Qube attempts to fire nuclear missiles at the Federal forces, but is stopped by Amuro Ray
- 6:45 PM - Aleksander Dolvich's mobile weapon goes "berserk", defeating Cima Garahau and then attacking Federal troops. He is stopped by a joint effort from Sabine Rocos and Ryan Long.
- 7 PM - The base is claimed for the Federation. Dolvich and Rocos are both placed under arrest.

The tenth and final day of Operation Odessa. The Black Knights under Patrick Alorn manage to keep Federal troops out of Baikonour, keeping part of Asia Zeon held. The Side 3 Resupply fleet escapes Federal blockades for a final time.

Aleksander Dolvich and Sabine Rocos are both aquitted of their crimes.
